patients by counselling them on the proper usage of medications to maximize
benefits and minimize tasks.
A prescription is received
from a patient and processed through the hospital computerized dispensing
system. Through this, a patient medical history could be checked upon dispensing
and monitor duplicate of therapy.
Prescriptions are reviewed and
filled as per physician’s instructions and in accordance with various
pharmaceutical considerations. Each prescription is labeled to clearly identify
the drug, indicate the quantity dispensed and provide clear instructions to the
patients regarding appropriate use of the drug.
The dispensing pharmacist
instructs each patient about proper use, precautions, and other related
information regarding his/her medications. The pharmacist checks each filled
prescription for accuracy and completeness before instructing the patient in the
drug’s use.
